If this magazine had a “Track Of The Month”, this gorgeous blurred-genre beauty would be it for July 2026: ISQ and “On Shoulders Of Giants”, out today (17th).
We very much liked ISQ’s previous offering, “Animal” in May this year, and this one is an even more mouth-watering amuse-bouche for the incoming main course new album.
London-based vocalist and songwriter ISQ aka Irene Serra, has now dropped a brace of tracks from her fifth album “The Silence is Deafening”, arriving 23rd October 2026 – her first LP in eight years.
“The Silence is Deafening” will mark a shift in her sound – darker, guitar-driven and cinematic – sitting somewhere between noir jazz and Massive Attack.
Irene has spent more than two decades building something quietly singular within the UK’s contemporary music scene, and as ISQ she draws together a sophisticated jazz musicianship, alternative pop sensibilities and rich electronic textures.
The current line-up of Richard Sadler (bass), Chris Nickolls (drums/electronics) and Luca Boscagin (guitar) counts credits across Neil Cowley Trio, Andy Sheppard and Cinematic Orchestra among its members. Sounding sublime on the new track.

The new single is Irene’s love letter to Italy that grows into a meditation on humility – the idea, inspired by Nick Cave and Newton’s “shoulders of giants,” that none of us arrives anywhere entirely on our own.
- Headline show: Crazy Coqs in London, Thursday 15th October 2026.
