Rising star Jack Dean – who we have tipped for an imminent big breakthrough – has unveiled his latest single, “Church in the Morning” and its lyric visualiser.
The new offering from the artist puts him firmly in the musical league of singer-songwriters such as Hozier, Benson Boone and Niall Horan, with a commanding vocal power which sees him boast an impressive range from its low-toned verses to mesmerising falsetto chorus. Co-written with Mike Needle (Tom Grennan, Niall Horan, Rag’n’Bone Man), René Miller, and co-produced with Martin Hannah.
Of the track, Jack says: “Church in the Morning’ is a really fun song. When we wrote this I was at the start of a new relationship and I wanted a song that perfectly portrayed how head-over-heels I was for her and how important she was in my life.
“With lyrics like ‘it’s like my knees need the floor to survive’ and ‘I speak of you like you fell from the sky’, I think we accurately captured how I felt at the time, young and very much in love. To me, this feels like a song for summer road trips and big festival stages, so I’m very excited it’s coming out now and I can’t wait to play it live with the band”.
The track follows the recently released “Angel”, Jack’s big powerhouse moment which saw his piercing vocal backed by a live choir and full instrumentation and won support at BBC Radio 1, with multiple plays on Future Pop and The Indie Show. “Angel” followed January’s “Still On My Mind”, the emotive pop single which cemented the singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer as a strong contender for music’s next success story, and as a captivating vocalist.
24-year-old Jack fuses dynamic production with heartfelt lyricism drawn from his own personal experiences. “I honestly just want to make music that feels like me… Drawing from real stories is the only way I know how to write. It’s been such a fun process turning thoughts into reality and I’ve been lucky enough to collaborate with some really amazing people who trust my vision and allow me to truly be myself in my songs”.
The latest name in pop emerges from the British countryside and has been gaining traction for his vocal skills through cover videos (including a viral performance of Benson Boone’s ‘Beautiful Things’), garnering more than 30 million views across “Reels” and TikTok. As the Covid-19 lockdown began in March 2020, Jack took the opportunity to focus on writing and producing his own songs from the studio he’d built in his bedroom. Locked away for weeks at a time, he very quickly began to hone his craft and started releasing music and videos that he scripted, directed and shot himself.
In 2022, Jack was contacted by Jamie Scott (One Direction, Justin Bieber, Rag & Bone Man, Tom Grennan, Jess Glynne, James Bay) who had heard one of Jack’s songs, “Slow Reply”. By September, Jamie had taken Jack under his wing and signed him to his publishing company, Catherine Songs. After releasing his debut EP, “Skin & Bone”, which received substantial support from BBC Introducing, Jack drew the attention of Electric Feel Entertainment in the US.
Behind the scenes, Jack has been spending the rest of his time in the studio, working with a wide range of new and developing artists, such as: Eden Rain, Marti Perramon, Caity Baser, Henry Moodie, Only The Poets, Jake Roche and many others.
Having spent the last few months writing and producing for his breakout project, and teasing it on socials, he is rapidly building a devoted fanbase and supporters across the globe.
