Ex-High Highs Member Jackson Mico Milas Drops Debut Single…

If gentle and charming alt. folk is your bag, then Australian songwriter, producer and composer Jackson Mico Milas and his debut single “For Every Coast” is worth getting your ears around.

Music Republic Magazine’s verdict: “Very classy falsetto-soaked, ethereal-vibed Richard Hawley territory…Mr Milas is destined for a healthy solo career… “

Jackson was one half of indie pop outfit the HIGH HIGHS, who toured internationally with the likes of Vampire Weekend and Empire Of The Sun.

He is also known for his award-winning work as a composer of numerous TV and film scores, including Tim Minchin’s acclaimed Sky Atlantic drama “Upright”.

Jackson will release his debut solo EP on the seventh of  August, “For Every Coast” – the title track is first cut to be lifted from it as a single, released on 12th June. The song explores the warmth of a relationship and the coldness of distance.

Directed by Louis English and Mitch Green of Tourist, the video follows Jackson wondering through an abandoned house and fields in a ‘hazmat’ suit. “Something unspoken has happened” he explains. “I really liked the idea of singing such a fragile and intimate song from behind glass.

“We made this video in 2019, long before the COVID pandemic. Obviously the imagery now has a very real connection to our lives in 2020. It’s a strange feeling. We hope it brings you some light”.

The four-track EP blends acoustic, alt-folk and jazz. The songs document Jackson’s journey as a musician and composer, focusing on displacement and loneliness.

Having settled in different cities around the world, he aimed to reflect a sense of isolation that he’d felt in each city, focusing on the fact that this forced him to collaborate remotely with friends and musicians across the globe; something that is becoming increasingly more prevalent today.
