Music Republic Magazine Exclusive Premiere: Emma King Track & Video

Impressive UK artist Emma King has dropped a brand new video and funky track, “Break The Mould”, which we EXCLUSIVELY premiere here.

Hull-born blues and americana singer-songwriter Emma was based in the Nashville area for six years, with her UK band The Heartsets, but is now back in her native country and going it alone as a solo artist.

She has a lovely new EP, “The Sun and the Blues”, due for release on 26th July 2019, which was recorded at Sun Studios in Memphis and The House of Blues in Nashville

Emma and the top drawer production team set out to create the most authentic vintage sound possible. Tracked live to analogue tape by Grammy-winning engineer Matt Ross-Spang, whose credits include Jason Isbell and Margo Price, Jake Niceleym who has worked with Alison Krauss and the Osmond Brothers, and Dustin Richardson (Milk Carton Kids).

The EP features four tracks, all original-songs penned by Emma and Ritch Spence, two from each location…which pay respectful homage to the legacy of the two historic studios and those legendary artists that have gone before her within those famous walls. The EP is issued on 10″ vinyl and digitally, and was recorded between 2014 and 2018.

Sun Studio is of course, the famed Memphis recording studio founded by Sam Philips, where Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash made their first ever recordings.

The House of Blues Studio, started life in Memphis, but relocated to Nashville. In 2009, one of its most-loved buildings (Studio D) upped sticks in its entirety, on the back of a big a truck down the I-40 motorway!

Each cut was recorded with full live takes performed by musicians all in the same room. As a bonus for those who order online, Emma has also included a digitised version of her track ‘Devil City’, which was recorded live-to-vinyl at Jack White’s Third Man Record Store Booth in Nashville.

“The Sun And The Blues” was cut to vinyl and mastered at Abbey Road Studios. Emma previously dropped two albums, “Emma King” and “Electric Soul Therapy”.

This track, “Break The Mould” is based upon a nod to musical innovators of the previous generation, and keeping that legacy alive. It also urges all artistic creators to stay true to their beliefs and identity, and push against the forces that may try to make someone go in a new direction that doesn’t fit. We hear you, Emma, we hear you!
