Sir Bob Geldof Celebrates 50 “Rat Years” With UK Tour + Documentary…

 

 

Legendary band The Boomtown Rats fronted by Bob Geldof, celebrate their 50th anniversary with a dozen theatre shows in 2025 – including a special London date – and an exclusive documentary screening at each gig on the tour.

Frontman Bob Geldof and iconic new wave rock band The Boomtown Rats became one of the biggest groups of the late 1970s and the 1980s with a string of top ten hits and platinum albums, earning them Brit, Ivor Novello and Grammy awards.

The band are back on the road in October and November 2025, for a series of 12 concerts across the UK- kicking off at Nottingham’s Royal Concert Hall on 10th October and wrapping up in Liverpool at the Olympia on 15th November.

The tour includes “a very special appearance” in London at the Eventim Apollo on 31st October which coincides with the anniversary of their first ever gig; in Ireland 50 years to the day.

The tour is a celebration of their musical legacy, with an exclusive Boomtown Rats documentary screening at each show, highlighting never before seen footage, taking fans on an evocative journey through the band’s extraordinary history.

The Boomtown Rats, renowned for their raw energy, thought-provoking lyrics and ability to reinvent themselves across decades, first formed in 1975 in Dún Laoghaire, Ireland. Founded by Bob Geldof (vocals), Garry Roberts (guitar), Johnnie Fingers (keyboards), Pete Briquette (bass), Gerry Cott (guitar), and Simon Crowe (drums).

The first-ever UK # 1 single  [“Rat Trap”] from an Irish band found international acclaim, alongside hits including the iconic “I Don’t Like Mondays,” which topped charts around the world.

Geldof received an honorary knighthood in 1986 from Queen Elizabeth II for organizing Band Aid and its hit single “Do They Know It’s Christmas”, and concerts that raised millions for famine relief and debt relief for the developing world and Africa. Sir Bob’s activism took centre stage with the monumental Live Aid concert in 1985.

In 2020 the Boomtown Rats released critically acclaimed new material with the much anticipated album “Citizens of Boomtown”.
