Maisie Peters staged a surprise open air performance in a Brighton street yesterday, (Friday 22nd May 2026), from the balcony of the Theatre Royal to several hundred excited fans.
The 45-minute set on Friday teatime, where she sang and played guitar accompanied by two musical colleagues, followed a one hour ‘shift’ behind the counter at Brighton’s city centre Resident Records between 2pm and 3pm, where fans flocked to buy her brand new album “Florescence” and have Maisie sign it, on the same day it was released.
Her third album, released via Ed Sheeran’s label Gingerbread Man Records/Asylum Records UK, follows up 2023’s album “The Good Witch”, that earned a top spot in the UK chart after her debut long player, 2021’s “You Signed Up For This”, which reached # two in the UK chart. Every chance this new album will repeat the chart success of her last album from three years ago and deliver her a second # 1.
Our ace snappers Manja Williams and David Myers were there to capture Maisie and her fans in the sunshine and inside the record store. She told the fans in the street that as a young musician she used to busk in the space by the park, Pavillion Gardens opposite the Theatre Royal, with only four people listening, one of them being her Dad.
She posted on her social media earlier on Friday: “My third album, ‘Florescence’ is out now. ‘Florescence’ means ‘to blossom/ to bloom’, and on the day of its release nothing has ever felt truer. I started this album at 23, lived it at 24, finished it at 25 and now, a week shy of my 26th birthday, I’m finally getting to give it to the people I made it for: you guys.
“This music really feels like a coming home to me. I was deeply inspired by the country music I grew up on, and the songs I wrote when i was 18, unafraid, and blissfully myself. I think that’s why this album sounds the most me of any so far, and also why it feels so easy and effortless; in making an album singing about going back to my hometown.
“Retracing my steps backwards through the years, through the heartbreaks and the rains and the highs and the lows; i think I inadvertently walked all the way backwards to myself again, and made an album that I feel like my 16-year-old self teaching herself downtown by a lady on the guitar, to go busk on any street corner she could find, would have LOVED.
“I have to thank ian fitchuk,@konradsollsnyder for helping me produce this record into one that I couldn’t be prouder of, and all the songwriters, without whom none of this music would have been possible. Thank you Nashville for being the magic behind it all, and thank you to all of you who have waited with bated breath for this exact day. I hope ‘Florescence’ is everything you wanted it to be and more, and I hope three records in I’m still making you proud.

Maisie was born on 29th May 2000 in Brighton and raised in Steyning, West Sussex, and she began singing at the age of eight, in choirs. She wrote her first song at nine and then began to write regularly from 12, after borrowing a guitar for a school project. She won the school talent contest with her own song in 2015 and was part of a theatre company.
At 15 she busked in Brighton and uploaded her original songs to YouTube. In August 2017 she self-released her debut single and a few months later a follow-up track. Her song was named song of the week by BBC Introducing in early 2018. She signed to Atlantic Records and released several singles and two EPs . Maisie signed to Sheeran’s label in 2021.
Maisie is a seasoned live artist having toured as support act for Mahalia’s UK tour in 2017, Tom Walker’s European shows in 2018, Ed Sheeran’s tours between 2022 and 2025, Coldplay’s European tour in 2024, Noah Kahan’s European tour in 2024, opening for Taylor Swift at Wembley Stadium in August 2024 and Conan Gray’s US dates in 2024.
Plus her own headline tours in the UK and North America, and various record store acoustic performances. On 8th May 2026 she headlined London’s 02 Arena as part of the venue’s 20th anniversary celebrations – her biggest headline show to date.
- Tomorrow (24th May), Maisie performs at the BBC Radio 1 Big Weekend in Sunderland. She will play Reading and Leeds festivals in August, and Mexico in November.
