Coventry punk rap artist shortstraw. (stylised lower case with a full stop) has just dropped impressive new track, “Motorola”, which deserves to do well for the refreshing new find.
Drawing on punk and grime influences, shortstraw. aka Erin West, has become known for their tongue-in-cheek lyricism, with nods to pop culture and 90s / 00s nostalgia.

“Motorola” was written and recorded in a Premier Inn Hotel in Exeter by Erin and bandmate/producer, Leo White while on tour with Sleaford Mods, performed that same night and declared “a real banger”.
Having already supported Soft Play, Fat Dog and Mannequin Pussy, as well as playing The Great Escape, Boomtown, and End of the Road Festival, shortstraw’s music is “personal, cutthroat and literal, exploring themes like politics, mental health, rave culture, and nods at growing up as a queer person in Coventry.”
Previous singles to check out are “White Rabbit” (2025), “Dot Cotton” (2025), “Bad Turn” (2025), “Good For Nothing” (2024) and “Sod’s Law” (2023).
