Introducing Exciting Aussie Band Betty Taylor: Our Big Tip For 2026…

We MUST tell you about Betty Taylor. Sounds like the start of some juicy gossip between senior citizens at coffee morning down the local community centre; but in reality…

This is our hot tip about a new young indie-pop band we think have every chance of breaking through to mainstream success next year.

So much so, based upon suggestions from Music Republic Magazine’s writers, photographers and the editor, they have today been added to the shortlist for “Best New Band” of 2025.

There will be only one band who get the “Best New Band” accolade. Find out if Betty Taylor did it, when we publish that feature on 1st December 2025.

The band is named after singer Sophie Taylor’s grandmother ‘s maiden name [who is in her 90s and in a care home in Australia], this exciting four-piece from the land down under are on these shores right now for a 10-date UK and Irish tour.

Drummer Katie

We caught up with them on the opening night of the tour in London at The Grace for a wonderful performance and an exclusive photo shoot, and since then they have played Manchester, Newcastle, Leeds and Sheffield.

Tonight [Weds 19th Nov] they are in Bristol, then over to Galway and Limerick with Dylan Flynn and The Dead Poets, before a headline show in Dublin and closing their tour in Glasgow on 26th November. Best advice: Grab a ticket if there are any left – and thank us later!

Sophie

An infectious and refreshing sound; full of fun and powerful energy. Four individually talented musicians and song writers from the Sunshine Coast, but as a group their chemistry is palpable.

It is so obvious from their collective ear-to-ear smiles on stage, they absolutely love what they do and live to do what they do.

So, time for the introductions: Lead singer and guitarist is Sophie Patrick. Harmonies and dreamy guitar from Kayla Smart (AKA Dorah Jacson), Claire Chittick on bass and Katie Ishaque [who has family in Warrington] on drums.

Formed by Sophie, the main lyricist, the four best friends went from performing open mic sessions in a backyard show in 2022 to one of Australia’s most beloved emerging acts.
Katie in her happy place!

We bloody love their latest single, “Sucker Punch” and it’s super fun video.

Released on 5th November via Hello Gardener / Pals.

Perfect mainstream radio track and ripe for a chart hit…

The band’s home-grown success has led to extensive touring, festival slots and at last count, more than three million streams.

Their debut single “Stallin”produced by Aidan Hogg (G Flip, Holy Holy), clocked close to 1,000,000 streams.

A year later in 2023, the band hit the stage alongside girl in red, Beddy Rays, and The Rubens as well as an extensive tour of the UK and Europe with The Grogans.

Their second single “Glitter” earned decent airplay on home soil, and their tracks “Can’t Get Enough” and the fantastic “Young Dumb Immature” secured major Spotify, Apple, and YouTube editorial playlisting.

The band’s reach is growing with support at college and speciality radio across the US, where their debut EP “Young Dumb Immature”, broke into the NACC and SubModern charts. They also played to packed rooms at this year’s SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas.

The new single “Sucker Punch” [not the Sigrid track/album title], they co-wrote with renowned Australian producer Robby De Sa (grentperez, The Veronicas, Blusher) and it is “a sun-soaked, heart-thumping dose of indie-dream-pop made for falling in love when you least expect it.”

Sophie: “This is a story about swearing off dating and being content on your own, only to suddenly meet someone who changes everything. It’s like BAM you meet someone out of nowhere and you’re like, oh wow you’re amazing, but also, oh no, this wasn’t a part of the plan and I don’t want to get my heart broken again.”

If you enjoy the likes of Phoebe Bridges, War On Drugs, Baby Queen and The Beaches, then you will probably really dig the noise Sophie, Kayla, Claire and Katie make. We love it… and we love them.  VERDICT: Ripper / bonza / beaut!

  • Check back on 1st December to see if Betty Taylor is named our “Best New Band Of 2025″…
