Right now [10th March 2025] in the US – Texas to be precise – hot prospect young UK four-piece band Baby Said are making their debut at the famed SXSW gathering, headlining a prestigious showcase before a second opportunity in a few days time, at the British Music Embassy hosted by BBC 6 Music’s Chris Hawkins.
The Portsmouth-based outfit is fronted by Italian/Punjabi sisters Veronica (20) and Jess (18) Pal, who have been making music since Jess was four and her sibling was six.
They formed a covers band and spent two years busking and playing small venues local to their home, before writing original material and forming Baby Said.
Releasing tracks one single at a time, debut album “BS” was released a few days ago (7/3/25) , with a core theme of “finding the power to speak up and inspiring others to do the same.”
The latest single, “Dead To me” has an eye-catching accompanying video where the sisters act out a kidnapping of each other and subsequent burial!
“When we sat down with the director Tom Knibbs to discuss the video idea for ‘Dead To Me’, we decided that we should fake kidnapped and pretend to bury each other. As the sisters who definitely never argue, we both thought this was a great idea.
“We managed to get the use of a derelict pub in Portsmouth called The Invincible which was being demolished as we arrived. We quickly filmed all the interior shots and headed down to Hayling Island beach to dig a grave.
“But what we didn’t realise was that just beneath the sand surface it was all stones, and it took us about an hour to dig a hole big enough while the temperature dropped to minus three degrees!” the pair explain.
Veronica first picked up the acoustic guitar at the age of six, inspired by a band of guitarists she saw at church. She pursued her passion for music by completing all of her guitar exams up to grade eight, transitioning from classical guitar to electric guitar.
Jess started playing acoustic guitar at the age of four, often playing alongside her sister. After experimenting with keyboards and piano, Jess was drawn to the bass guitar after watching the live performance of Måneskin at Sanremo in 2021.
Their journey as Baby Said was ignited after a summer of busking in 2021. Their talents were quickly recognised, and they were invited to play in local venues, leading to the birth of their covers band, AstroModa.
In just two years, they have performed at more than 250 gigs all over the country, building their confidence and skills to pursue their goal of writing, recording, and releasing their own original music.

Fresh from supporting U.S. rockers Dirty Honey on a UK tour they were selected for The Great Escape Festival in Brighton, Reading & Leeds, Live At Leeds, Victorious, Rebellion, Twisterella, and Loud Women.
Baby Said get our vote for ones to watch, and we’d not be surprised if they land a major label record deal in the future…Despite the name of their debut album; there’s absolutely no BS here folks – no hype necessary!
