Saturday we caught Texas, Stereo MCs, The Bootleg Beatles, The Coral, Abbie Ozard, Peter Hook and the Light, Amy Moore, Chris Ostler, Callum Beattie, Dub Catalyst, The Zangwills, Supalung and Dolly Mavies.
Day # two of the 18th birthday celebrations for Wychwood Festival – party time in the sunshine for up to 10,000 music fans and their families on Cheltenham racecourse across the three days of 31st of May and the first and second day of June.
Sister Sledge headlined Friday and lots more going aside from the music; such as top end comedy, literature, workshops and loads for the kids on site. Safe, friendly and one of the jewels in the crown of chilled, family-orientated UK festivals in the UK.
Headliners for Saturday are Texas. Sunday is the turn of Ocean Colour Scene. Other top music stars on the lineup still to come on the final day include Seasick Steve, Lightning Seeds and Dexys.
Texas fronted by Sharleen Spiteri have released 10 studio albums and shifted more than 40 million units. Last year they smashed it on the Pyramid sage at Glastonbury.
Wychwood’s second stage ‘The Garden’, has an array of the best new talent and old favourites from across the country, including Yorkshire’s post-punk six-piece Deadletter, Dutch indie band Pip Blom, Welsh psych-rock band CVC and Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard.
The second day began with Mr Motivator on the main stage delivering a work out which woke up even those who had a very late night and may well have had one more drink than was wise! Amazing energy for a 71-year-old – aka Derrick Evans.
One of the festival’s organisers did a little thankyou speech from the main stage to everyone making 2024’s event a success, and an emotional dedication to Sam, who had organised the event for years and who sadly passed away last year.
A big hit on day # two was the wonderful Abbie Ozard. Go see her….
Nice to see kids dancing with parents and maybe even grandparents to Stereo MCs and their mighty hits, “Step it Up” and “Connected”, sounding as fresh in June 2024 as they did decades ago.
Look out for our coverage of day # three coming on Monday…..with lots more super pix from our ace lensman…and do have a look at Friday’s review and pix too…
