Undiscovered: 19-year-old singer, musician, songwriter and producer Ella May Thomas from Suffolk in the UK is a Bath University student studying commercial music, releasing her enticing debut single, “Chewing Gum”, today (3rd September 2021) featuring Yung Fist.
Ella May cites Arlo Parks, Kate Bollinger and Minnie Riperton as main influences. Ella May overlays hip-hop and jazz-inspired instrumentation on her music.
The single was created around an infectious jazz piano riff with a hip-hop beat, featuring her friend and fellow music student at Uni’, Yung Fist, a rapper and spoken word artist.
The lyrics to “Chewing Gum” revolve around becoming stuck on someone (“like chewing gum!”) using poetic phrasing to capture a moment in time where one thinks a relationship would last forever.
Ella May was inspired by her father’s jazz piano playing and her mother’s soul records’ collection at an early age. She says she creates “dreamy music with poetic lyrics sung in an ethereal voice…”
A young, raw, promising talent at the very start of her music career, who we feel is on the way to her own sound and deserves early attention….
