US Country Trio Runaway June Destined For Breakthrough With New EP?

Exciting US country trio Runaway June have dropped superb three-track EP “backstory” via BBR Music Group/Wheelhouse Records,  a radio-ready offering which should by rights earn them a spot among 2021’s/2022’s “most likely to breakthrough” acts.

They have just set out on the road with country star Luke Bryan on his “Proud To Be Right Here” tour across the States.

Drenched in rich harmonies and western bluegrass, the Runaway June tracks focus on heartbreak, break-ups and moving on, and deliver a sound not far away from the mega-successful Dixie Chicks, lately called The Chicks.

Runaway June is Naomi Cooke (lead vocals/guitar), Natalie Stovall (vocals/fiddle/guitar), and Jennifer Wayne (vocals/guitar). They deliver delicious harmonies and a classy and commercial western-rooted bluegrass sound.

They’ve made numerous national TV appearances in the US,  and have been nominated for ACM Awards and CMT Awards. Their 2019 debut album, “Blue Roses”, received widespread critical acclaim .

“backstory” Track Listing:

“Forgot About That”, opens the EP. Written by Naomi Cooke, Jennifer Wayne, Corey Crowder and Emily Shackelton. A feel-good uptempo track with an addictive hook – Dolly Parton meets Shania/The Chicks!

“Down The Middle” is a different feel to the opener, far less pop and more of a polished album track. Really cool cut, penned by Naomi Cooke, Jennifer Wayne, Hannah Mulholland, Barry Dean and Tofer Brown. First two tracks on the EP, produced by Dan Huff.

The single, “T-Shirt” is a real winner. (Hear it, below). A shoo-in for a Top 20 US country hit, surely, and could do well in the UK if national BBC Radio got behind it.  Writers are Naomi Cooke, Jennifer Wayne, Adam Hambrick and Mark Trussell (Mark gets producer’s credits on this one).
