Irish artist Laoise – pronounced Lee-sha! – drops super new single, “Healthy” today (23rd October 2020). She is definitely one to watch….
Talking of which….if you are hungry, the visualiser for the single, below, will make you even hungrier. Three minutes and 35 seconds of Laoise sat on the kerb scoffing pizza! We love pizza here – and we love this track.
During lockdown, 22-year-old Laoise felt “isolated” and “frustrated”, questioning the direction she was heading in – almost quitting music altogether. Searching for a perspective outside of music to navigate her thoughts and emotions.
She started therapy and it was through these sessions that she found the headspace to start thinking about healthier ways to approach not only her music, but life in general.
Channeling this energy into her songwriting, taking away all the pressures and expectations, now stronger and more ambitious than ever.
Laoise and her long-time collaborator Seán Behan escaped from the city to an island off the west coast of Ireland, writing new music with the crashes of ocean waves just outside their window.
“Healthy” showcases a softer, more controlled side to her voice, evoking a sense of calm but maintaining a playfulness. She writes about a relationship that feels mature and nurturing, but it also questions how we deal with situations.
Originally from Galway in Ireland, Laoise grew up surrounded by traditional Irish music. She learned to play the fiddle at five, attending traditional Irish sessions at her local Galway pub, and it was this sense of togetherness through music that made her want to pursue being a musician as a career.
Inspired by the theatrics of Kate Bush, the charm of Stevie Nicks and the confidence of Taylor Swift to constantly evolve and develop a new sound.
We tip her for big things and say the new single, “Healthy” could be a hit and make radio ‘A’ playlists all over the place, if the stars align for her. See what you reckon, below……..is that a tummy rumbling I hear, or thunder?
- NOTE: Explicit language heard on the track and seen in the on-screen lyrics.
