Shambolics: Alan McGee’s Latest Signing

“One of the best Scottish artists out there. A classic Creation band. Big tunes and they look great”. So says Alan McGee, and he’s got a decent pair of ears on him, you could say!

He’s talking about the latest signing to his Creation 23 label, Shambolics, who drop their second single today (Feb 14th), the very lovely track, “Sandra Speed”. Official video here for your delight….

Shambolics line-up is: Lewis McDonald – vocals/guitar, Darren Forbes – vocals/guitar, Jordan McHatton – vocals/bass and Jake Bain – vocals/drums

With their latest single, Fife four-piece Shambolic introduce us to ‘Sandra Speed’; a girl as ‘lonely as a winter… frail, pale and as white as snow’. The tale of a girl fallen on hard times; a character at once vividly familiar, but frozen perennially out of reach.

“I wrote the song in our studio staring out the window and seeing the very thing happen right outside,”  reflects front-man Darren Forbes. “The song is about a vulnerable girl who has mingled with the wrong crowd and lost herself.”

The track nods to the likes of Aztec Camera, Blossoms, The Stone Roses, The Smiths, The LA’s and maybe even The Cure, but with a modern relevance for the digital age crowd.

‘Sandra Speed’ is the followup to their debut: ‘Chasing A Disaster’, which sold out a 7″ vinyl run and was championed by Steve Lamacq on his BBC6 Music radio show.

Hailed by label owner and mentor Alan McGee, who of course signed Oasis, Primal Scream, Jesus & The Mary Chain to his Creation Records label, the band have been selling out shows at some of Scotland’s most legendary venues, and last year they smashed it with packed venues across the UK on their own UK headline tour.

They have shared the stage with The Sherlocks and The View, and made new friends playing some of the UK’s biggest festivals, including Isle of Wight Festival, Tramlines Festival, Reading and Leeds Festivals, Y-Not Festival in Derbyshire and Truck Festival in Oxfordshire.

They will be back out on the road for a slew of spring and summer 2020 festivals, dates below, and more to announce. Music Republic Magazine’s “Ones To Watch” hot tip for 2020.
