He got Music Republic Magazine’s “Best Male Artist of 2018” nod in our end of year round-up. Deservedly so.
New York-born, Texas-raised rapper and producer Post Malone, aka Austin Richard Post is only 23-years-old, but his talents have seen him trouser circa $14 million since his debut, self-titled album dropped in 2015.
Since then he has shot to global stardom with the release of a further two hit albums. “Stoney” in 2016, broke Michael Jackson’s 34-year-old record for the most weeks spent on Billboard‘s Top R&B and Hip-Hop album chart – reaching 77 weeks compared to the 76 weeks that “Thriller” spent on the chart.
His latest album is the mega-successful “beerbongs & bentleys” (stylized in lower case is correct, by the way!) which came out last year (2018). That album and songs from it landed him four 2019 Grammy nominations.
Currently on a world tour, selling out everywhere he goes and giving stunning performances without fail, according to social media chatter from fans and what the critics say.
Last night (16th Feb 2019) was no exception, when he jetted in to Birmingham to the largest live music venue in Britain’s second city, the Resorts World Arena, which changes its name more times than Donald Trump’s skin tone!
The second date on the European leg of his tour, after a loved-up gig in Dublin on Valentine’s night, Thursday 14th Feb. During the Birmingham show, he told the circa 15,000 fans that he’d smoked the most expensive cigarette of his life in Dublin two nights earlier, because he was fined $4,000 for lighting up in the venue.
The man worth an estimated $14 million, then proceeded to light up and smoke a fag on stage in Birmingham to the cheers of his fans.
During fan-favourite song “Rockstar”, he chucked a few more quid down the drain by smashing up a perfectly good guitar! Naughty boy. Support came from Roddy Ricch and Tyla Yaweh.
Our loony, woops, I mean lovely lensman Mr Sheldon, sacked off a normal Saturday night at home knitting a new cardigan and listening to a recording of the shipping forecast on loop; to catch the Post man in the act and he reports a first class performance (see what we did there?) and delivers some cracking shots for you all to enjoy….So enjoy!
- Tonight (Sunday 17th Feb) Post Malone plays Glasgow and tomorrow night (Tuesday 19th Feb) he plays Manchester,. Then Europe is calling before he is back to the UK in March for two nights at London’s 02 Arena, before touring South America, Australia, New Zealand and the US. Back in the summer for a gig in Dublin and then headlining the Leeds and Reading Festivals.
