Fresh from dropping her new single Candy, New Zealander Theia (real name Em Haley-Walker) reveals the brand new video to accompany it.
The punchy pop-art inspired visual was shot by Auckland-based photographer Zara Gilbert and directed and edited by fellow Kiwi animator and graphics artist Mardo El-Noor.
Hailing from Christchurch, New Zealand, Theia- aka Em-Haley Walker- raises the bar and firms up her reputation as one of New Zealand’s most exciting new music acts.
Theia started turning heads when she took part in the music discovery initiative The Audience, gaining international attention from tastemaker blogs like HillyDilly and Pigeons and Planes with her song Silver Second.
Theia went on to release her first official single Roam, which became one of the biggest songs released by a New Zealand artist in 2016, dominating Spotify’s viral Global chart and has since been streamed more than 12 million times.
In Summer 2017, Theia released her debut EP, attracting critical acclaim and earning her three nominations at the 2017 New Zealand Vodafone Music Awards. The EP has had more than 14 million streams across all platforms.
Theia opened Sia’s NZ Stadium Tour in 2017, alongside MO and Charli XCX. Theia released Bye Bye in Spring 2018, produced by LA-based ARIA-nominated Producer of the Year Tony Buchen.
The song was written in Sydney with legendary US producer Mike Elizondo (Eminem, Dr Dre, P!nk), Australian hip-hop artist L Fresh The Lion and fellow Kiwi singer-songwriter Vince Harder.
Samantha Urbani (ex-Friends) also created a glittering rework of the track. Flash forward to 2018, which has seen Theia drop hot new singles such as Bye Bye and Bad Idea receiving more than one million streams along the way.
