* Ahhhhh, they really are done. The Maccabees say goodbye with their very last tour, “Live For The Last Time – The Farewell Shows” which opened in Birmingham at the sold out main room of Birmingham’s 02 Institute.
The London band who formed in 2004, were well up for it, as were the punters. They sounded mighty and as fresh as hell, not like a band who have thrown in the towel and feel they have nothing left to offer.
Blasting through cuts from all four albums, opening with “Wall Of Arms”. The fans lapped it all up and raised the roof with the sing-a-long “Precious Time”. They left the stage to a mix of triumph and sadness, after their last song, “Pelican”. Beads of sweat mixed with a few salty tears maybe?
The eight-date final tour calls in at Glasgow, Newcastle, Manchester x two nights and culminates in three nights at London’s Alexandra Palace on 29th & 30th of June and 1st July, after which the boys all go their separate ways.
Ahhhh………………………. But I have a feeling in my water that they might just need to take a long break and may surprise us all sometime in the future. Wishful thinking? Maybe. But thanks for the great music chaps…………..
